The Problem: Agricultural Structures That Rot From the Inside Out

Animal agriculture is brutally hard on building materials. Livestock stalls, barn partitions, and stable floors are exposed to a continuous combination of urine, manure, harsh disinfectants, hoof impact, and moisture — conditions that destroy wood in 2–4 years and corrode uncoated steel in similar timeframes.

Beyond material degradation, rotting wood in livestock facilities creates hygiene risks that regulatory bodies increasingly scrutinize. Splinters cause injury to animals, and the porous surface of wood harbors bacteria even after disinfection cycles. The cost of replacing barn partitions, stall floors, and pen fencing every few years represents a significant and often underestimated operational expense for farm operators.

The Miura Board® Solution

Miura Board®’s non-porous surface does not harbor bacteria, resists all common agricultural disinfectants including quaternary ammonium compounds and caustic soda, and will not rot or swell when exposed to animal waste. A simple pressure wash is all that is required to restore the surface to hygienic condition.

Because it contains no wood fibers, it is termite-proof — a critical advantage in warm climate agricultural regions where subterranean termite damage can destroy wood framing within a single season. The absence of splinters eliminates the most common source of livestock injury in stall environments.
