Chemical-resistant, dimensionally stable materials for extreme industrial environments

The Challenge

The Problem: Industrial Environments Destroy Standard Materials

Industrial facilities – oil & gas plants, chemical processing facilities, warehouses, and heavy manufacturing – subject structural panels to chemical spills, extreme temperature variation, forklift and pallet jack loads, and continuous vibration. Wood absorbs chemical spills and retains hazardous residues. Standard fiber cement cracks under mechanical impact. Metal corrodes in chemical-laden atmospheres.

In insulation protection applications for steel building girders, standard panels leave gaps at joints where girder geometry changes – forcing the use of infill materials that degrade faster than the primary panel and create recurring maintenance obligations. In scaffolding applications, the weight of traditional hardwood scaffold boards increases labor intensity and injury risk.

The Miura Board® Solution

Miura Board®’s chemical resistance profile covers a broad spectrum of industrial solvents, acids, and bases – making it safe to use in environments where accidental spill contact is likely. Its dimensional stability means it does not expand or contract with temperature cycles, maintaining a tight fit in protective cladding applications without gap formation.

For steel building insulation cladding, Miura Board® is available in lengths up to 9ft – engineered specifically to eliminate the problematic joints at girder transitions that cause failure in standard panel configurations. This single dimension advantage was the primary specification driver for the Gainesville Steel Building Cladding project documented in our case studies.

The 9ft panel length is a key specification advantage for insulation cladding on steel building girders, where standard 8ft panels create problematic joints at the transition between the vertical web and the bottom flange.

Case Study

Steel Building Cladding Project – Insulation protection for a steel-frame industrial building. Miura Board® 9ft panels were selected specifically to eliminate the gap formation issue documented with standard panels at girder transitions. Post-installation inspection confirmed zero gap formation, full insulation coverage, and structural integrity after 12 months of service.
